Free preview: Choose your focus: the idea

Your attention is limited. Choose one task that moves a goal you care about instead of trying to make the whole day perfect. Write the task as a visible action: draft 200 words, practice a conversation, or outline one section.

Notice what interrupts you during two ordinary days. Record the interruption without blaming yourself. Distinguish external interruptions from the urge to escape a difficult task.

Worked example: Maya wants to finish a portfolio but her task list says “work on my career.” Before each session she chooses one artifact: select three project images, draft the introduction, or send one application. A session succeeds when that artifact advances. Getting distracted does not erase the work she completed.

Use two lists. The outcome list holds projects such as “submit my portfolio.” The next-action list holds things you could actually begin now. If an action contains several decisions, break it down until you can see where to start. Keep maintenance tasks, such as checking messages, in a separate window when possible.

Five-minute exercise: write the project, the next visible action, the materials needed, and a stopping point. Read the action aloud. If you still do not know what to open or do first, make it smaller.

Key points: Choose one 15-minute action for tomorrow · Choose a small, observable next step
